OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in 1975. Best known as guitarist, songwriter, and producer for the progressive rock band the Mars Volta, Omar also counts writing, acting, film direction, and soundtrack scoring among his many talents. He grew up in El Paso, Texas, and first gained notoriety with the critically acclaimed post-hardcore band At the Drive-In. Upon relocating to Long Beach, California, he founded the Mars Volta in 2001, initiating an intense twelve-years-and-counting cycle of touring, relentless recording, and artistic expression. In 2009, he and the Mars Volta were awarded a Grammy for the song “Wax Simulacra” from the album The Bedlam in Goliath. In 2010, Omar’s first feature film release, The Sentimental Engine Slayer, had its US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. In March 2012, his second feature, Los Chidos, premiered at South by Southwest. Hunters in High Heels is his latest book.
