Upon relocating to Long Beach, California, he founded the Mars Volta in 2001, initiating an intense twelve-years-and-counting cycle of touring, relentless recording, and artistic expression. In 2009, he and the Mars Volta were awarded a Grammy for the song “Wax Simulacra” from the album The Bedlam in Goliath. In 2010, Omar’s first feature film release, The Sentimental Engine Slayer, had its US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
