Courttia Newland & Bernice L. McFadden on Tour

TWO NOVELS OF LOSS, SELF-DISCOVERY, AND REDEMPTION HIGHLIGHT AKASHIC BOOKS’ BLACK HISTORY MONTH RELEASES

As North America approaches its annual observance and remembrance of important events in the history and heritage of the African Diaspora, Akashic Books releases two works by black novelists whose narrators are engaged in genealogical discoveries of their own.

Bernice L. McFadden and Courttia Newland, authors of these exquisite novels, will appear in conversation together across the Mid-Atlantic. A celebrated author in England, this is Newland’s first book to be published in the United States, and this is his first-ever US book tour!

Both The Gospel According to Cane and Nowhere Is a Place provide an unique literary take on the notion of locating one’s identity in relation to its position in a broader context of family, heritage, and history. While this is not a strictly black theme, it’s a compelling lens through which to observe Black History Month. (As an additional Black History Month promotion, we’re offering a 50 percent discount on Bernice’s previous Akashic titles here.)
