Michael Imperioli — Brooklyn Book Festival, Brooklyn, NY

With:

Michael Imperioli presents The Perfume Burned His Eyes at the Brooklyn Book Festival. Location TBA.

COMING OF AGE IN NYC: Young adulthood is a particularly raw and fraught time, but coming of age in the city where great privilege and ambition abuts great adversity, the stakes are even higher. Khary Lazarre-White’s Passage tells the story of Warrior, a young black man, navigating a system of oppression in Brooklyn and Harlem in 1993. After losing his two father figures, Michael, the protagonist of The Perfume Burned His Eyes by Michael Imperioli, is uprooted from his home in Queens to “the city,” where a new world awaits him. In her memoir Little Panic, Amanda Stern recalls juggling divorced parents who led completely opposite lives in two different neighborhoods. Short readings and a discussion moderated by novelist Mitchell Jackson (The Residue Years), followed by an audience Q&A.
