Heatin’ Up: Nina Revoyr’s A STUDENT OF HISTORY

Nina Revoyr’s latest novel, A Student of History, hasn’t officially released yet  — publication date is March 5, 2019 — but we’re already receiving fantastic praise!

There is a Publishers Weekly feature on Revoyr focused on her writing process. Although this latest novel revolves around weighty themes — race and class — Revoyr wants people to enjoy reading it: “The picture of LA, the dynamics between the characters . . . I want people to have fun with this book. I had so much fun writing it.” Read the entire feature here!

The New York Journal of Books praises A Student of History: “With her two Walter Mosley-like gifts — impeccable narrative pacing and masterful command of Los Angeles’ intricate, evolving dynamics of race and class — Nina Revoyr’s LA novels convincingly capture the lifespan of Los Angeles as a major city, none more gracefully than A Student of History.”

A Student of History has been named a Staff Pick by Milwaukee’s Boswell Book Company proprietor Daniel Goldin, who praises the novel as “a solid page turner,” and notes: “While Revoyr has written a number of notable novels, for us, she is best known for Wingshooters, which takes place in Wisconsin. Like that novel, A Student of History deftly touches on themes of social justice without seeming preachy.” More here.

Lastly, this week the Rumpus featured an exclusive excerpt from A Student of History!
