Simon’s Cat in Good Company: Andy, Schoharie Free Library (New York)

October is cat month here at Akashic, as all of us adore those furry felines (well, almost all of us—someone here has allergies). We’re celebrating the release of Simon’s Cat vs. the World (available everywhere as of October 1st!) by featuring some of our favorite bookstore and library cats from around the world. Did you see us going cat-crazy on Tumblr a few months back? This is why. Come back every Wednesday and Friday in October to be introduced to a new purrfect pal.

(Interested in finding a feline friend of your own? Consider adopting one on October 29th, also known as National Cat Day!)

Today, meet Andy, a frequent visitor of the Schoharie Free Library in Schoharie, New York, and a furry friend to all. From the library staff:

Andy the Library Cat strolled into our building one summer and announced his decision to visit whenever he wanted. He actually belongs to a neighbor family two houses away, but is a very sociable animal and loves to be around people. Whenever there is a library program, he’s always here to literally poke his nose in. Patrons let him in and out of the door, I have gotten a phone call for him, he’s been photographed by visitors from Germany and Japan, he has his own set on the library’s Flickr page, and he belongs to Cat-in-the-Box. Not bad for a fourteen year old!

Andy 1(Ed. note: I know it’s only October, but if anyone wanted to give me some gift in the upcoming holiday season, a cute cat like Andy sitting in a basket would be much appreciated . . . )

Andy 2(Ed. note II: Andy’s Flikr album is pretty great, but you also should 100% definitely know that the Schoharie Library also has an album full of llamas.)
