Seminar Series @ the Old American Can Factory!

Akashic is pleased to welcome the Signature Writers’ Services and Gary Heidt to the Old American Can Factory April 11 through April 25 for their seminar series Insights into Book Publishing: A Literary Agent’s Insider Tips for Writer!

If you are a writer and interested in getting published, come join literary agent Gary Heidt, whose four-lecture seminar series will focus on manuscript consultation, queries, and proposals, as well as public educational events. This seminar series will help any writer who would like to know more about how the book business really works and what concrete steps she or he could take toward getting published! Interested individuals may sign up here.

Saturday, April 11, 3pm to 6pm
Publishing Today – The last decades have seen great changes in the publishing business. How has the landscape changed? Do you need an agent? What about self-publishing?
Saturday, April 18, 1pm to 6pm
Writers are welcome to attend either or both of the April 18 lectures:
Nonfiction: How to Write a Book Proposal (1pm to 3:30pm) – You don’t sell a nonfiction book, you sell a proposal for the book. Learning how to write a proposal teaches you everything you need to know about what publishers want.
Fiction: Query Writing for Novelists (4pm to 6pm) – If you’ve written a novel, how and to whom do you pitch it?  If you haven’t, the form of the query itself can teach you a lot of surprising things about things to consider before starting to write your masterpiece.
Saturday, April 25, 3pm to 6pm
Book Contract Essentials – What you need to know for Traditional and E-Publishing.
Panel Discussion with the Publishers – Jill Schoolman (Archipelago Books) and Joshua Ellison (Restless Books) join Gary in a panel discussion, followed by a Q&A.
Cost: A subscription to the entire series (all four lectures) can be purchased for $175 before March 31st, or for $225 thereafter.
Location: 232 Third Street (at the corner of Third Avenue & Third Street), Brooklyn, NY 11215
