Indie Bookstore Spotlight: Addendum Books (St. Paul, MN)
Welcome to Akashic in Good Company, a feature highlighting some of the amazingly talented, hard-working, committed people Akashic has had the pleasure of working with over the past fifteen years. Today, we are delighted to feature a virtual tour of a great new bookstore with a young adult focus: Addendum Books!
Addendum Books is an independent young adult and children’s bookstore located in St. Paul, MN.We (co-owners Marcus Mayer and Katherine Warde) opened our store a year and a half ago, and are so pleased with the growth we have had, and the support we have received from customers and authors alike! As far as we can tell, we are the very first bookstore in the country to specialize in young adult literature.
Our goal has been to create a space that is teen-friendly, since most children’s bookstores seem aimed at their younger customers. Although YA books are our focus and comprise the majority of our stock, we also carry a well-curated selection of middle grade and picture books. All the sections of our store have expanded during the time we have been open, and we are quickly outgrowing our current space!
We are in a rather unique situation, as we share a space with a general bookstore (they carry the books for grownups). Opening our stores together has been a wonderful way for both of us to start out as brand-new businesses, but the plan all along has been for Addendum to move out and into our own space at some point. We are currently looking for a space of our own and hope to find the right place soon.
During the time we have been open, we have been thrilled to host a number of YA, MG, and PB authors (and illustrators), both local and national. We have also partnered with many schools, libraries, and other organizations on author events – we love the community we are a part of and enjoy collaborating with other supporters and readers of YA and children’s lit.
You can visit us in person at 165 Western Ave. N #14, St. Paul 55102. You can also visit us online! If you are interested in learning more about what we are up to and the authors we host, consider following our blog or signing up for our newsletter.
And a big thank you to Akashic Books for featuring us in Good Company!
