Nelson George – Brooklyn Book Festival, Brooklyn, NY

Killer Crime-Fiction: Crime-Fiction may inspire thoughts of a scandalous murder and a magnifying glass, but these novels are more nuanced, and related to the real world, than a simple detective hunting for clues. Joyce Carol Oates (A Book of American Martyrs), Nelson George (To Funk and Die in L.A.), and Ben H. Winters (Underground Airlines) discuss how they brought in elements from religious values to familial loss to an alternate American history to expand the scope of the traditional crime-fiction genre. Moderated by Sarah Weinman (Women Crime Writers: Eight Suspense Novels of the 1940s & 50s). Panel will take place at St. Francis College Founder’s Hall, 180 Remsen St.
