Don’t Miss the Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival on Sat., August 23rd!
Saturday, August 23rd marks the tenth anniversary of the Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival! The event begins at 2:00 PM and will be hosted by Gaylord Fields (special projects editor for Rolling Stone), featuring readings by Sapphire (Push), Vanessa Gabb (founder, Five Quarterly), Willie Perdomo (Smoking Lovely), Angel Nafis (BlackGirl Mansion), and Danny Simmons (co-creator, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam). A meet-and-greet after-party will follow at 4:30 PM at Greenlight Bookstore.
The reading celebrates the culmination of a six-week series of free creative writing workshops, offered every Saturday to young people between the ages of seven and eighteen. Participants of the workshops will also be reading at the festival, which will take place in Fort Greene Park. The park is an integral part of New York literary history, and the festival seeks to pass this rich tradition down to a new generation of literary artists.
